Older Sydney homes and the switchboard question

Rewiring rarely comes up because someone went looking for it. It comes up because a homeowner adds air conditioning, or an EV charger, or a second bathroom, and finds the switchboard cannot carry it.

Houses built before the mid-eighties often still run ceramic fuses and have no safety switches at all. That was compliant at the time. It is not how anyone would wire a house today, and it is the single most common reason we recommend a switchboard upgrade. A full rewire is a much bigger job and it is not needed in most cases.
