Electrician Ryde
Fault finding, switchboards, smoke alarms and appliance circuits for Ryde homes, done by licensed electricians who answer day or night.
A licensed electrician for Ryde flats, townhouses and houses
A switchboard that keeps tripping or a power point that’s gone dead needs a licensed electrician in Ryde. Our electrician Ryde team is on call at any hour, for apartments, townhouses and houses.
Every job is priced before work starts, and the price holds once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so we give you the price for your visit before we begin.
What electrical faults turn up in Ryde homes?
The 2021 Census counted 12,459 occupied homes in Ryde, and 6,941 of them were flats or apartments. Whether it’s a unit or a house, power reaches every room through a switchboard.
The switchboard is the panel that splits the incoming power into circuits. A safety switch is a device that cuts power in a split second when current leaks to earth. When one keeps tripping, fault finding for tripping circuits traces the faulty circuit instead of just resetting it.
Some older boards still have ceramic fuses. Others have no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits. A switchboard replacement is quoted as a fixed job.
A power point that’s warm, buzzing or marked with scorch is a fault. Stop using it. Switch it off at the board and give us a call.
Signs your board needs a look
- A safety switch that trips again after you reset it
- Lights that flicker when the oven or a heater starts
- A panel that feels warm, crackles or smells burnt
- Ceramic fuses where breakers should be
Lighting, appliances and fans in Ryde apartments and houses
An induction cooktop or a new oven needs a circuit of its own, and an older board needs a check first. We handle oven and cooktop installation from the board to the appliance.
Old halogen downlights run hot and draw more power than LEDs. Swapping them for LED lighting upgrades cuts the load on the circuit. A new ceiling fan needs a secure fixing and a circuit that can run it.
Emergency electrician Ryde: any hour, day or night
No power, sparks or a board that won’t reset deserves a call on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and agree the price with you before work starts. See how our emergency electrician callouts run.
- Look outside. If your neighbours’ lights are off too, the fault may be in the street rather than your home.
- If only your home is dark, check the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug the appliance that was running when the power went.
- Stay away from any wire that’s down, and treat it as live.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, Ausgrid says to report electrical faults and emergencies on 13 13 88, which is answered 24 hours. It also says to stay at least 8 metres, or 2 car lengths, away from fallen wires or powerlines. In a life threatening situation, call triple zero (000) first.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, its page says an Authorised and Accredited Service Provider Level 2 (ASP/2) can install, repair or maintain the overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and Ausgrid’s electricity network. We hold Level 2 accreditation (number 5559). Our Level 2 electrician page covers that work.

Will I get a certificate for electrical work in Ryde?
The NSW Government says electricians must submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work whenever electrical work has been undertaken. The person who carries out the electrical test submits it no later than seven days after the test. From 1 July 2026 it goes through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal.
A copy goes to the customer by email when the electrician adds their email address in the portal. By law, electrical wiring work must be done by, or under the supervision of, a licensed electrician. The NSW Government sets out the rules on its electrical compliance requirements page.
Electrician Ryde: apartments, rentals and the strata board
City of Ryde Council says its area takes in most of the land between the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers, with 16 suburbs inside its boundaries. Ryde is on that list.

More than half of Ryde’s occupied homes were flats or apartments in 2021. In a strata building, the NSW Government says that in most cases a light belongs to the owner or to the owners corporation, depending on where it sits. Your strata plan and by-laws settle any doubt.
Electrician Ryde: whose light is it in a strata building?
| Type of light | Who usually looks after it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Lights that hang into your property | The owner of the lot | Book a licensed electrician. |
| Lights recessed into the ceiling | The owners corporation | Tell your strata manager. |
| Lights on common property | The owners corporation | Tell your strata manager. |
In 2021, 5,622 Ryde homes were rented. NSW says landlords must make sure smoke alarms, including heat alarms, are working. A landlord must use a licensed electrician to repair or replace a hard-wired one, with some exceptions for strata schemes. See our smoke alarm installation page.
