Level 2 electrical work across the Blue Mountains

Plenty of electrical problems up here are not inside the house at all. They sit between the street and the meter, which is work most electricians are not licensed to touch.

Our Level 2 accredited electricians can work on the network side of your supply. That covers connecting and disconnecting power, repairing overhead and underground service lines, replacing private power poles, and metering work. Across the Mountains this comes up more than it does closer to the city, because more properties are fed by overhead lines running across bush blocks.

After a storm, a service line brought down by a falling limb is one of the more common calls we take. If your power is out and the problem looks like it is outside the house, do not go near the line. Stay well clear, keep pets and children inside, and ring us on 1300 164 206.

Private power poles are the other thing to know about. If your supply runs from the street across your own land, that pole is your responsibility to maintain rather than the network operator’s. Rot at the base is common on older timber poles in wet, shaded positions, and it is not something you want to find out about during a storm.

Suburbs we cover across the Blue Mountains

The Mountains cover a lot of ground and close to a kilometre of elevation, and electrical work is not the same at the top as it is at the bottom. Our electricians work the full corridor, from the gateway suburbs through to the upper Mountains.

Katoomba

Katoomba has some of the oldest housing stock in the region and the harshest conditions to go with it. Sitting near a thousand metres, the town gets cold winters, heavy rain and long periods of fog, and moisture works its way into fittings, junction boxes and older cabling over time. Heritage cottages here often still run boards that were never designed for reverse cycle heating or a modern kitchen. Housing runs across several decades, so an electrician in Springwood can be replacing ceramic fuses one morning and adding circuits to a recent build the next.

Winmalee

Winmalee is heavily treed and sits close to bushland on most sides, and a good number of homes here were rebuilt after the 2013 fires. That has left an unusual mix: newer homes wired to current standards next door to properties that have not been updated in decades. Overhead supply running through tree cover also means storm damage to service lines is a recurring job for our Winmalee electricians, which is where Level 2 accreditation earns its keep.

Blaxland

Blaxland is largely family housing from the sixties through to the eighties, and the work reflects it. Switchboards without safety switches, not enough power points for how families actually live now, and outdoor areas that were never wired for an alfresco or a pool pump. Most of what our Blaxland electricians do here is adding capacity to homes that were built for a much lighter electrical load.

Glenbrook

As the first suburb up the highway, Glenbrook gets milder weather than the towns above it, but it backs onto the national park and shares the same issues with overhead supply and tree cover. Being close to Penrith also means we can usually reach Glenbrook homes quickly, including on emergency callouts.
