Leaks, blocked drains, hot water and gas fitting for Wollstonecraft flats and homes, by licensed local plumbers who quote first.
A licensed plumber for Wollstonecraft flats, units and homes
A leak through the ceiling, or a toilet that won’t stop running, needs a licensed plumber in Wollstonecraft. Our plumber Wollstonecraft team takes calls at any hour, for flats and houses.
Each job gets a price before we start, and the price holds once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, so we quote your visit first.
Which plumbing jobs come up in Wollstonecraft’s flats and homes?
At the 2021 Census, 3,031 flats or apartments made up most of Wollstonecraft’s 3,820 occupied homes. Here are four jobs that come up in homes like these, then a look at who owns which pipe.
Leaks that show up below
Water on a ceiling or down a wall can start in the unit above. Finding where a leak starts comes before any decision about who repairs it.
Slow showers and blocked toilets
A shower that drains slowly points to a blockage further down the line. Our drain clearing team deals with basins, showers and toilets.
Hot water that gives out
Water that runs cold halfway through a shower needs a look. We repair gas and electric units, and if a repair won’t pay off we’ll tell you. See our failing hot water unit repairs.
Taps and cisterns that keep running
A tap that drips or a cistern that never stops refilling wastes water. For a rental, NSW lists a broken fitting or fixture that wastes a substantial amount of water as an urgent repair.
Who looks after which pipe in a block?
In most cases, NSW splits strata repairs in two. An owner repairs plumbing in internal walls and fixtures, like baths, toilets, sinks and showers. The owners corporation repairs plumbing in boundary walls and under the floor.
Sydney Water covers the other side. It says owners are normally responsible for private pipes up to where they connect to its services. The water main and meter are usually its job. Its ownership diagrams show where the line falls.
Sydney Water says you mustn’t let rainwater or stormwater into the wastewater system. Owners also maintain any pumps that boost water pressure in private pipes.
Emergency plumber Wollstonecraft: any hour, day or night
A burst pipe on a Saturday night can’t wait. Call 1300 164 206 and a licensed plumber answers, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Evening and weekend rates differ, and you get the price before we start.
While you wait
- Turn the water off at the nearest isolation tap or the main tap.
- Switch off the power at the board if water has reached power points or lights.
- Take photos of the damage before you mop up.
- Tell your strata manager or a committee member, if you can reach one.
- Call us, then keep the area clear.
NSW says an owner may get a refund from the owners corporation after an emergency repair. You may need to show the fault was the owners corporation’s job and that the call was necessary and urgent. Ask the plumber for written details of the fault and the repair.
Hot water and gas in Wollstonecraft’s flats
For a tenant, a breakdown of any essential service for hot water is on NSW’s list of urgent repairs. The tenant has to tell the landlord or agent straight away.
A storage unit heats a tank and holds it ready. An instantaneous unit heats the water as it runs. Both are sold in gas and electric models.
If your flat has gas, moving a cooktop or fitting a new heater is licensed gasfitting work. Our gas appliance fitting covers connections, appliance swaps and pressure testing.
NSW lists a gas leak as an urgent repair in a rental. If you smell gas, leave the home, don’t touch light switches or appliances, and call us from outside.

Do I need a certificate or approval for plumbing work in Wollstonecraft?
A plumber submits a Notice of Work before starting a job that needs an inspection. NSW says emergency work and minor works don’t need one. Replacing tap ware or an existing hot water system counts as minor work.
A Certificate of Compliance confirms the work complies with the plumbing regulations and the Plumbing Code of Australia. The plumber gives a copy to the person who arranged the work. Keep it with your strata or house papers.
North Sydney Council lists its conservation areas in Part B, Section 13 of its development control plan. A table in an appendix to that plan lists properties on Cable Street, Shirley Road and other Wollstonecraft streets, and its conservation area column reads Wollstonecraft for those entries. For buildings in conservation areas, the council says the listing focuses on the external envelope of buildings, gardens and site structures. Ask the council whether your address is covered.
Plumber Wollstonecraft: flats, rentals and who pays for the fix
The NSW Electoral Commission says Wollstonecraft is partly or wholly in North Sydney Council’s area. So are North Sydney, Crows Nest, Waverton and St Leonards.

Of the occupied homes, 280 were separate houses. In a strata building, check the strata plan and by-laws if it isn’t clear who repairs a fault. NSW tells tenants to ask their landlord, and 1,874 homes were rented in 2021.
