Electrician Wollstonecraft
Fault finding, switchboard upgrades, lighting and smoke alarms for Wollstonecraft flats and homes, by licensed local electricians.
A licensed electrician for Wollstonecraft units and homes
A circuit that keeps cutting out, or a smoke alarm that chirps all night, needs a licensed electrician in Wollstonecraft. Our electrician Wollstonecraft team takes calls at any hour, day or night.
We price every job before work starts. The figure is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so we quote your visit before we begin.
Which electrical faults turn up in Wollstonecraft’s flats and homes?
The 2021 Census counted 3,031 flats or apartments among Wollstonecraft’s 3,820 occupied homes. A switchboard is the panel that splits power into circuits. It holds a breaker for each circuit and, in a newer board, the safety switches.
A safety switch is a device that cuts power in a split second when current leaks to earth. When one won’t stay on, hunting down the faulty circuit beats resetting it again and again. A board with ceramic fuses needs a look before new load goes on. So does one with no safety switch on its power and lighting circuits.
We quote replacing an old board as a fixed job.
Signs your board needs attention
- A breaker that trips again within minutes of a reset
- A power point that feels warm or looks marked by heat
- A fizzing or crackling sound near the board
- Lights that flicker when a big appliance starts
If a power point is warm or marked by heat, stop using it. Turn it off at the board, then call us.
Electrician Wollstonecraft: air conditioners, lights and appliances
The NSW EPA lists times when air conditioner noise shouldn’t be heard in a residential room of a neighbour’s home. On weekends and public holidays, that’s before 8 am and after 11 pm. On any other day, it’s before 7 am and after 11 pm. The EPA lists no restriction during severe or extreme heatwaves. That means a Bureau of Meteorology warning is in force for the district while the unit runs.
The EPA also says to keep a unit away from neighbours’ bedroom and living room windows, or shield it to cut noise. A reverse cycle unit, an oven or a cooktop needs a circuit that can carry its load. Our appliance circuit wiring runs from the board to the appliance.
In a strata scheme, NSW says lights that hang into your unit are yours to repair. Lights on common property, and any lights recessed into the ceiling, belong to the owners corporation. For a light that’s yours, we fit swapping in LED lights.
Emergency electrician Wollstonecraft: any hour, day or night
No power, sparks or a board that won’t reset deserves a call to 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The price is agreed with you before work starts. Here’s how our emergency electrical callouts work.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, it asks you to report electrical faults and emergencies on 13 13 88 (24 hours). Call triple zero (000) if someone’s life is in danger. Ausgrid says to stay at least 8 metres, or two car lengths, from fallen wires or powerlines.
While the power is off
- Check your neighbours. If they have power and you don’t, the fault might be inside your home.
- Leave one light switched on, so you know when power returns.
- Switch off and unplug TVs, computers and other sensitive gear to protect them from surges.
- Never connect a generator to the house switchboard or wiring.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, it sends an outage text to the primary account holder when it knows of an outage on its network. Ausgrid says that if your power is still out when the rest of the street returns, you should report it on 13 13 88. Its emergency service officers then do a free check of your meter and connection wire.
Ausgrid says it’s legally unable to repair customer equipment past the connection point, including service wires and private electricity poles. If those are damaged, you need a qualified electrician to repair them.
Ausgrid says Level 2 Accredited Service Providers are authorised to provide services involving contestable installation work, disconnection and reconnection of supply, and energising installations. We hold Level 2 accredited service provider number 5559.

Do I get a compliance certificate for electrical work in Wollstonecraft?
NSW says any electrical wiring work must be done by, or under the supervision of, a licensed electrician. The electrician gives Building Commission NSW a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. It shows the work has been tested and complies with the regulation and relevant Australian Standards.
The person who tests the work submits it as soon as practical, and no later than seven days after the test. From 1 July 2026 it goes through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal. Handwritten and PDF forms are no longer accepted.
The customer gets a copy by email when the electrician adds their address. NSW says the certificate can help with warranty claims on the electrical article installed.
Electrician Wollstonecraft: renters, trees and flats
North Sydney Council calls Berry Island Reserve an area of harbourside bushland. The small peninsula in Wollstonecraft is linked to the mainland by a wide grassed causeway.
Trees and wires come with rules. If Ausgrid supplies your home, it says you’re responsible for clearing growth from a tree on your own property that affects your service wire, up to your boundary. Ausgrid says it clears vegetation on council land. It also says any trimming near its powerlines must be done by accredited workers.
North Sydney Council has its own rule for private land. Its page on when you need a permit lists these trees on private land. They are more than 5 metres high, have a crown width of more than 5 metres, or have a trunk circumference of more than 500 millimetres at ground level. It also lists Camphor Laurel and Celtis trees more than 10 metres.

Renters held 1,874 of those homes. NSW says a landlord must replace a smoke alarm within 10 years of manufacture, or sooner if the maker says. A hard-wired one needs a licensed electrician.
NSW lists some exceptions for strata homes. There, the tenancy agreement shows whether the owners corporation, the landlord or the agent can arrange the work. We do hard-wired smoke alarm work in Wollstonecraft.
