Electrician McMahons Point
Fault finding, switchboard upgrades, lighting and appliance circuits, done by licensed local electricians who answer day or night.
Licensed electricians for McMahons Point apartments and homes
A breaker that trips whenever the oven and the air conditioner run together needs a licensed electrician in McMahons Point. Our electrician McMahons Point team takes calls at any hour, for flats, terraces and houses.
Of 1,169 occupied homes in the 2021 Census, 603 were rented. We price every job before work starts, and the figure is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so we quote your visit before we begin.
What electrical faults turn up in McMahons Point flats?
The switchboard is the panel where the power splits into circuits. It holds the breakers and, in a newer board, the safety switches. A safety switch is a device that cuts the power within a split second when current leaks to earth.
When one keeps tripping, fault tracing for trips finds the faulty circuit instead of resetting it. A board with ceramic fuses, or with no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits, needs a closer look before anything new goes on. We quote a switchboard upgrade as a fixed job.
Signs your board needs attention
- A safety switch that trips again after you reset it
- Lights that dim when the oven starts
- A switchboard that’s hot or humming
- Burn marks or a burnt smell at a power point
Appliances, lighting and cooling for flats and terraces
A reverse cycle air conditioner or an induction cooktop needs a circuit of its own. We handle oven and cooktop fitting from the board to the appliance.
In an apartment, check who owns a light before you swap it. NSW says that in most cases lights that hang into your property are the owner’s. Lights recessed into the ceiling or on common property belong to the owners corporation, and broken appliances and whitegoods are the owner’s.
Where a light is yours, LED lighting upgrades cut the load on the circuit. A new ceiling fan needs a secure fixing and a circuit that can run it.
Emergency electrician McMahons Point: any hour, day or night
Sparks, a burning smell or a board that won’t reset deserves a call on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and quote the price before work starts.
- Check whether the neighbours have power too.
- If only your home is dark, look at the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug the appliance that was running.
- Treat any fallen wire as live and keep well clear.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, report faults and emergencies to Ausgrid online or on 13 13 88, which it lists as open 24 hours. For electric shock or a life-threatening situation, call triple zero 000. Ausgrid says to stay at least 8 metres, or 2 car lengths, away from fallen wires or powerlines.
Ausgrid also says fallen trees around damaged network equipment can hide electrical hazards. It says an Authorised and Accredited Service Provider Level 2 (ASP/2) can install, repair or maintain the overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and its network. We hold Level 2 accreditation, number 5559, for our Level 2 electrician work.

Will I get a certificate after electrical work in McMahons Point?
NSW says electricians must submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. The person who does the electrical test submits it, no later than seven days after the test. From 1 July 2026, it has to go through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal.
The customer is emailed a copy when the electrician adds their email address to the certificate. Keep it with the papers for the home.
Electricity in a suburb of flats and rentals

In 2021, 603 of the 1,169 occupied homes were rented. NSW says landlords of rental properties must check smoke alarms every year. They must repair or replace one within two business days of finding out it’s not working, and use a licensed electrician for a hard-wired alarm.
NSW lists exceptions for rentals in a strata scheme, so read its smoke alarm page for your building. Our smoke alarm installation covers new and replacement units.
