Licensed electricians for Castlecrag homes, any hour
Power points that die whenever the kettle and toaster run together call for a licensed electrician in Castlecrag. Our electrician Castlecrag team answers calls at any hour.
We agree the price before work starts, and it’s fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, and we quote your visit first.
What electrical problems show up in Castlecrag homes?
The 2021 Census counted 930 separate houses among Castlecrag’s 955 occupied homes.
A switchboard is the panel where power from the street splits into circuits. It holds the circuit breakers and any safety switches. A safety switch is a device that cuts power when current leaks to earth. When one keeps tripping, fault tracing for trips finds the circuit behind it.
Some boards have ceramic fuses. Others have no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits. Either can need work before it takes new circuits. A switchboard upgrade is quoted as a fixed job.
Each circuit has a breaker that trips when it carries too much current. A breaker that trips whenever two heavy appliances run together is doing its job. It points to a circuit carrying more than it was built for.
Signs a board needs a closer look
- A safety switch that won’t stay on
- Lights that dim when the oven or a heater starts
- A board that feels warm or smells burnt
- Ceramic fuses where breakers should be
Electrician Castlecrag: appliances, lighting and fans
A cooktop, oven or air conditioner draws a lot of power. We handle cooktop and oven fitting from the board to the appliance.
Old halogen downlights draw more power than LEDs, so LED lighting upgrades cut the load on a circuit. A new ceiling fan needs a secure fixing and a circuit that can run it.
Emergency electrician Castlecrag: any hour, day or night
No power, sparks or a board that won’t reset deserves a call on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and agree the price before work starts.
- Look at nearby homes. If their lights are off too and Ausgrid supplies your street, call Ausgrid on 13 13 88.
- If only your home is dark, check the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug whatever was running when the power went.
- Treat any wire on the ground as live and keep well back.
- Don’t keep resetting a board that smells burnt. Call us.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, it says to stay at least 8 metres, or 2 car lengths, away from fallen wires or powerlines. Its faults line is 13 13 88, available 24 hours. Call 000 if someone is in danger.
Ausgrid says a Level 2 service provider can install, repair or maintain service lines. Those are the lines between a customer installation and its network. We hold Level 2 accredited service provider number 5559.

Do I get a certificate for electrical work in Castlecrag?
Yes. NSW says the person who tests electrical work must submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. It goes to Building Commission NSW no later than seven days after the test. From 1 July 2026 it has to go through the eCert portal. Paper and PDF forms are no longer accepted.
The portal emails you a copy when the electrician adds your email address. Keep it with the house papers.
Willoughby City Council’s Castlecrag reserve plans refer to the Griffin Heritage Conservation Area, which has its own section in Part H of the council’s Development Control Plan. If your home is in that area, ask council whether its controls touch external electrical work before the job starts.
Electrician Castlecrag: houses, overhead lines and the network
Ausgrid’s network area check lets you enter your postcode to see which distributor supplies your street. If Ausgrid supplies your home, it says it maintains and repairs its network in the street. The owner is responsible for the private poles and powerlines on the property beyond Ausgrid’s connection point.
Castlecrag homes in the 2021 Census
Source: ABS Census QuickStats. The ABS makes small random changes to figures for privacy.
In 2021, 464 Castlecrag homes were owned outright and 368 had a mortgage. Ausgrid says owners maintain private poles and powerlines from the first point of connection on the property to the switchboard or meter. A rented home has an owner too.
Electrician Castlecrag: who looks after which wires?
| Part of the supply | Who looks after it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Poles and wires in the street | Ausgrid, if it supplies your street | Report faults on 13 13 88. |
| A fallen or arcing powerline | Ausgrid, if it supplies your street | Stay 8 metres away and call 13 13 88. |
| Private poles and lines from the first connection point on your property to the meter | The property owner | Have a licensed electrician inspect and repair them. |
| A burnt smell or crackle at your switchboard | A licensed electrician | Keep clear of the board and call us. |
Trees count too. Ausgrid says you maintain the vegetation around private overhead powerlines and poles. Ausgrid says it trims around network assets that aren’t on private property. Any trimming within three metres of Ausgrid powerlines must be done by accredited workers.
