Licensed electricians for Willoughby houses and units

A power point that sparks or a safety switch that won’t stay on needs a licensed electrician in Willoughby. Our electrician Willoughby team takes calls at any hour, for houses, townhouses and apartments.

Every job is priced before work starts, and the figure is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so you get the price for your visit first.

What electrical faults do Willoughby homes call us about?

Aussie Home Services electrician working on a switchboard

A switchboard is the panel that splits the incoming power into circuits. A safety switch is a device that cuts power in a split second when current leaks to earth.

A safety switch that trips again after a reset has a fault behind it. A power point that feels warm or crackles when you plug in should stay switched off until it’s checked. Fault finding on the circuit finds the cause, not just the symptom.

Some boards still carry ceramic fuses, or have no safety switch on the lighting and power circuits. Either one needs a look before a new circuit goes on. A switchboard repair is quoted as a fixed job.

Signs your board needs attention

  • A breaker that drops out within minutes of a reset.
  • Lights that dim when the oven or a heater starts.
  • A switchboard that feels warm or smells of burning.
  • Ceramic fuses where breakers should be.

Cooktops, chargers and fans in Willoughby homes

Ceiling fan

We fit oven and cooktop circuits from the board to the appliance, and we swap halogen downlights for LEDs. We’ll confirm the appliance rating before we quote. An induction cooktop is a hob that heats the pan with a magnetic field. Check its rating before you buy, so the board can carry the load.

In an apartment building, the NSW Government says most EV charging projects need owners corporation approval, and some may need a by-law. Once approval is in place, our EV charger installation team can quote the circuit.

Emergency electrician Willoughby: call at any hour

No power, a burning smell or a board that won’t reset is worth a call to 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and agree the price with you before any work starts.

  • Check whether the street’s lights are off too.
  • Look at your board for a tripped safety switch or the main switch.
  • Unplug whatever was running when the power dropped.
  • Treat any fallen wire as live and stay clear.
  • Ring us if only your home has lost power.
  • Keep children and pets away from the board until the fault is found.

If the power is out across your street and Ausgrid supplies your home, report it to Ausgrid on 13 13 88, which is staffed 24 hours. Stay at least 8 metres, or 2 car lengths, away from fallen wires, Ausgrid says. In a life-threatening situation, call triple zero (000).

Ausgrid says a Level 2 accredited service provider can install, repair or maintain the overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and its network. Our Level 2 accreditation number is 5559.

Will I get a certificate after electrical work in Willoughby?

Yes, for work that needs one. NSW says the person who carries out the electrical test must submit the Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work no later than seven days after the test.

From 1 July 2026 it must go through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal, and paper and PDF forms are no longer accepted. The customer is emailed a copy when their email address is added. The detail is on the NSW electrical compliance page.

Electrician Willoughby: owners, tenants and strata blocks

The 2021 Census counted 2,489 occupied homes in Willoughby. Here is how those homes split by tenure and type.

Willoughby households in the 2021 Census

851
homes are owned with a mortgage (34.2%)
830
homes are owned outright (33.3%)
771
homes are rented (31.0%)
788
homes are flats or apartments (31.7%)

Source: ABS Census QuickStats. The ABS makes small random changes to figures for privacy.

Nearly a third of occupied homes were rented. NSW says landlords must make sure smoke alarms, including heat alarms, are working. A landlord must repair or replace one that isn’t working within two business days of finding out. See our smoke alarm installation page for that work.

In a strata building, who fixes a light depends on where it hangs. The NSW strata repairs guide says that in most cases the owners corporation looks after lights on common property and recessed ceiling lights. Owners look after lights that hang into their property.

I had a great experience with Aussie Services, especially with Luke, who came out to fix a blocked drain at my property. Luke was extremely professional, friendly and approachable. He took the time to explain the cause of the blockage, clearly explained what needed to be done, and resolved the issue efficiently. I really appreciated his knowledge, honesty and willingness to help. It's refreshing to deal with someone who genuinely takes pride in their work and provides excellent customer service. Highly recommend Luke and Aussie Services. I'll definitely use their services again in the future!

Very happy with the plumbing work done by Luke and his team. It was a big job but it was carried out with minimal disruption to the household, and the yard. Luke was always good in explaining how the job was progressing, and importantly when we had windows of opportunity to use the sewerage system during the day. They finished the job in a timely manner, and cleaned up afterwards. Happy to recommend this company.

Called and booked for Monday, given between 8 and 12pm for a possible gas leak. Chris showed up 1 minute after he called as he was just around the corner. Chris was polite, informative and professional. Checked all my appliances, one by one and the main meter. Lucky there was no leak and it was a billing issue. Better to be safe than sorry. Also as a first time customer received a discount which was nice as I saw on line if you mention it they knock it off the total price. Zero call out fee and all work quoted up front fixed price. Would highly recommend Aussie Home Services. Its hard yo find great trades these days and Chris fits the bill! Thank you.

Electrician Willoughby FAQs

The price depends on the job and the parts, and we quote it before work starts. Once you approve it, it’s fixed. Quotes are free, and evening and weekend rates differ. No call-out fee applies when the booking is for the following day or later.

A safety switch trips when current leaks to earth, and a faulty appliance or circuit can cause that. We trace the circuit behind the trip instead of just resetting it.

It depends on what’s out. If the whole street is dark and Ausgrid supplies your home, report it to Ausgrid on 13 13 88. If only your home is dark, check the board, then ring us.

In a strata building, the NSW Government says most projects need owners corporation approval, and some may need a by-law. Ask your strata manager or committee before any wiring starts. We can then quote the circuit.

It covers our labour if our workmanship causes a failure and the work is defective. Parts aren’t covered. Ask us for the details when we quote.

NSW requires a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, and the person who tests the work submits it no later than seven days after the test. The customer is emailed a copy when their email address is added in the portal.
