Electrician Neutral Bay
Fault finding, switchboard upgrades, lighting and smoke alarms for Neutral Bay flats and houses, done by licensed local electricians.
Neutral Bay electricians on call at any hour
A safety switch that keeps tripping, a dead power point or a burning smell from the board needs a licensed electrician in Neutral Bay. Our electrician Neutral Bay team takes calls at any hour.
The price is agreed before work starts and stays fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, so you hear the price before we begin.
Which wiring and switchboard faults come up in Neutral Bay?
A switchboard is the panel that splits incoming power into circuits and holds the circuit breakers and safety switches. A safety switch is a device that cuts power in a fraction of a second when current leaks to earth. A switchboard upgrade or repair puts safety switches on the circuits that need them.
A safety switch that trips again after every reset has found a fault on one circuit. The cause might be a damaged appliance, water in a fitting or a wiring fault. We trace it with methodical fault tracing instead of resetting it over and over.
Signs your board needs attention
- A safety switch that trips again straight after a reset
- Lights that dim or flicker when an appliance starts
- A switchboard that feels warm or smells of burning
- Scorch marks or a crackle at a power point
Lighting, cooling and appliance circuits for Neutral Bay units
Halogen downlights use more power than LEDs. Our LED lighting upgrades swap them for lights that cost less to run.
An induction cooktop or a wall oven draws a lot of power. Its circuit has to match the rating of the appliance, and the board needs room for it. Our appliance installation work covers the circuit and the hookup.
A ceiling fan needs its own wiring and a wall switch, which is licensed electrical work. We offer ceiling fan installation for homes here.
Emergency electrician Neutral Bay: any hour, day or night
No power, a burning smell or a board that won’t reset deserves a call straight away on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, including nights and weekends, and agree the price with you before work starts. Rates change in the evenings and on weekends.
Here’s how our emergency electrician service works. If the power goes out:
- Check whether your neighbours have power.
- Look at the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Treat any fallen wire as live.
- If the board won’t reset, call us at any hour.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, its page says to report faults and emergencies on 13 13 88 (24hrs). It says to call triple zero 000 in a life threatening situation, and to stay at least 8 metres, or 2 car lengths, from fallen wires or powerlines. Fallen trees and vegetation around damaged equipment can hide electrical hazards too.
Ausgrid says an Authorised and Accredited Service Provider Level 2 can install, repair or maintain the overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and its network. Our Level 2 accreditation number is 5559.
Ausgrid also says all work from the first point of connection on the property is the customer’s electrical installation. The customer must keep it safe and well maintained.

Which certificate follows electrical work in a Neutral Bay home?
In New South Wales, the person who tests electrical work must submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, at most seven days after the test. From 1 July 2026 it goes through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal, and paper and PDF forms are no longer accepted. The NSW Government compliance page sets this out.
If your email address is added when the certificate is completed, the portal sends you a copy. File it with your property records.
Wiring and boards in Neutral Bay’s apartment blocks
The 2021 Census counted 10,090 people and 5,619 private dwellings in Neutral Bay. Most occupied homes are flats or apartments.

More than half of Neutral Bay’s occupied homes were rented. For rented homes, the NSW Government says a landlord must check smoke alarms every year and repair or replace one within two business days of finding out it isn’t working. A tenant must tell the landlord or agent if an alarm stops working. The same page sets out an exemption for strata schemes, so read it if you rent or own in an apartment block. We also handle smoke alarm installation and replacement.
In an apartment, who looks after a light or an appliance depends on where it sits. The NSW Government’s strata repairs page gives the split in most cases. If you can’t tell which applies, it says to check your strata plan and by-laws.
Electrician Neutral Bay: who looks after the light or appliance?
| What needs repair | Who looks after it, in most cases | First step |
|---|---|---|
| A light that hangs into your home | The owner | Call a licensed electrician. |
| A light recessed into the ceiling, or on common property | The owners corporation | Check your strata plan and by-laws. |
| A broken appliance or whitegoods item | The owner | Call a licensed electrician if it needs wiring work. |

A licensed electrician comes to your flat and gives you a fixed price before any work begins. If the job changes along the way, we pause and discuss it with you first.
A safety switch trips when current leaks to earth, so a repeat trip points to a fault on one circuit. The cause might be an appliance, a damp fitting or damaged wiring. Fault finding tracks down the circuit and the cause.
The owner looks after lights that hang into the home in most cases, and the owners corporation looks after lights recessed into the ceiling or on common property. If you can’t tell which applies, the NSW Government’s strata page says to check your strata plan and by-laws.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, report it on 13 13 88 (24hrs), and call triple zero 000 if someone’s life is in danger. Stay at least 8 metres, or 2 car lengths, away from fallen wires.
