Electrician Gordon
Fault finding, switchboard upgrades, smoke alarms and appliance circuits in Gordon houses and apartments, done by licensed local electricians.
Licensed electricians for Gordon homes and apartments, any hour
A switchboard that trips whenever the oven and heater run together needs a licensed electrician in Gordon. Our electrician Gordon team takes calls at any hour, for houses and apartments.
Every job is priced before work starts, and the figure is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so you get the price for your visit first.
What electrical faults turn up in Gordon homes?
In the 2021 Census, 1,129 of Gordon’s 3,199 occupied homes were rented.
A switchboard is the panel that splits incoming power into circuits. A safety switch is a device that cuts power within a split second when current leaks to earth. When one keeps dropping out, our fault finding service looks for the circuit and the cause instead of just resetting it.
Some boards still carry ceramic fuses, and others have no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits. Either needs a closer look before a new circuit goes in. A switchboard upgrade is quoted before work starts.
Signs a board needs attention
- A safety switch that drops out again within hours
- Lights that dim whenever the oven or heater starts
- A warm panel, a buzzing sound or a burnt smell at the board
- Ceramic fuses where breakers should be
Smoke alarms and appliances in Gordon rentals and owner homes
NSW Government says landlords must keep smoke alarms working. A hard-wired alarm must be repaired or replaced by a licensed electrician. Our smoke alarm installation covers new alarms and replacements.
The NSW Government page lists some exceptions to these rules for rentals in a strata scheme, so check it if you live in an apartment block.
An induction cooktop or wall oven can need a circuit of its own, and the board has to carry the extra load. Our cooktop and oven fitting covers both.
A hard-wired smoke alarm runs off the home’s mains power rather than a battery. A power point that feels warm, crackles or has scorch marks on the faceplate shouldn’t be used again until it’s checked.
Emergency electrician Gordon: any hour, day or night
No power, a burning smell or a board that won’t reset deserves a call on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and agree the price with you before work starts. See how our round-the-clock callouts work.
- Look outside and see whether the neighbours’ lights are off too.
- If only your home is dark, check the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug the heater or appliance that was running.
- Treat any fallen line as live, and keep clear.
Ausgrid says to stay at least 8 metres, or two car lengths, away from fallen wires or powerlines. Report electrical faults and emergencies on 13 13 88, which is available 24 hours. Call triple zero (000) if anyone is in danger.
Ausgrid says an Authorised and Accredited Service Provider Level 2 (ASP/2) can install, repair or maintain service lines between a customer installation and its network. Our Level 2 accredited service provider number is 5559.

Do I get a certificate for electrical work in Gordon?
Yes. NSW Government says electricians must submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work whenever electrical work has been undertaken. The person who carries out the test submits it as soon as practical, and no later than seven days after the test.
Since 1 July 2026 every certificate goes through the BCNSW eCert portal, and handwritten and PDF forms are no longer accepted. When the electrician adds your email address in the portal, the system sends you a copy once the certificate is lodged.

Gordon homes in the 2021 Census

Flats outnumbered separate houses in Gordon in 2021. In a strata building, NSW Government says the owners corporation looks after lights on common property and any lights recessed into the ceiling. The owner looks after lights that hang into the unit and broken appliances.
Electrician Gordon: whose job is the fault?
| What you see | Who deals with it | First step |
|---|---|---|
| The whole street is dark | Ausgrid, if it supplies your home | Report it on 13 13 88. |
| Only your unit has lost power | Us | Look for a tripped safety switch or main switch. |
| A powerline is down | Ausgrid, if it supplies your home | Stay 8 metres away, and call 000 if anyone is hurt. |
| A hard-wired smoke alarm fails in a rental | The landlord, with some exceptions in strata schemes | Tell your landlord or agent. |
For houses with overhead lines, Ausgrid’s tree trimming guide says owners must keep private overhead powerlines free of vegetation. Trimming near powerlines must be done by workers accredited under the NSW code of practice.
