Electrician Greenwich
Fault finding, switchboard upgrades, lighting and appliance circuits for Greenwich houses and apartments, by licensed local electricians.
A licensed electrician for Greenwich houses and units
A breaker that trips whenever the oven and the heater run together is a job for a licensed electrician in Greenwich. Our electrician Greenwich team takes calls at any hour, for houses and apartments alike.
We price every job before work starts, and the figure is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so we quote your visit before we begin.
What electrical faults turn up in Greenwich homes?
The switchboard is the panel where incoming power splits into circuits. It holds the breakers and, in a newer board, the safety switches. A safety switch is a device that cuts power within a split second when current leaks to earth.
A switch that keeps tripping means something is wrong on a circuit. We use fault tracing for repeat trips to find the circuit and the cause, rather than resetting it and hoping.
Some boards still carry ceramic fuses, or have no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits. A switchboard upgrade puts protection on every circuit and leaves room for new loads. We quote it as a fixed job.
Signs your board needs attention
- A safety switch that trips again within minutes of a reset
- Lights that flicker or dim when a heater or oven starts
- A warm panel, a crackle or a burnt smell at the board
- Ceramic fuses where breakers should be
Lights, fans and appliances for Greenwich households
Old halogen downlights draw more power than LEDs and run hot. Swapping them for LED lighting upgrades cuts the load on the circuit.
In a strata building, check who looks after the light before you swap it. NSW says that in most cases lights that hang into your property are the owner’s. Lights recessed into the ceiling, and lights on common property, are the owners corporation’s.
An induction cooktop or a wall oven usually needs its own circuit. We handle cooktop and oven fitting from the board to the appliance. A new ceiling fan needs a secure fixing and a circuit that can run it.
Emergency electrician Greenwich: any hour, every day
No power, sparks or a board that won’t reset deserves a call on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and quote the price before work starts. See how our emergency electrician callouts run.
- Check whether the neighbours’ lights are off too.
- If only your home is dark, look for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug the appliance that was running when it tripped.
- Stay well clear of any wire that is down, and treat it as live.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, report fallen or arcing powerlines to it on 13 13 88, which it lists as 24hrs. Ausgrid says to stay at least 8 metres or 2 car lengths from a fallen powerline and never touch or move it.
In a life-threatening situation, Ausgrid says to call 000 straight away. Once supply is back, we can check the wiring on your side of the meter.

Will I get a certificate for electrical work in Greenwich?
Yes. NSW says the person who carries out the electrical test must submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. It is due no later than seven days after the test. From 1 July 2026 it has to go through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal.
The customer’s copy goes out by email when the electrician adds your email address in the portal. Keep it with the papers for the property.
Electrician Greenwich: flats, houses and the power network
The NSW Electoral Commission lists Greenwich among nine localities in the Lane Cove Council area. Ausgrid says its network covers Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley, and offers a postcode checker to confirm which network serves an address.
Greenwich homes in the 2021 Census
Source: ABS Census QuickStats. The ABS makes small random changes to figures for privacy.
Of 2,128 occupied homes in 2021, 785 were owned outright and 596 were owned with a mortgage. In a strata building, NSW says owners look after anything within their property, and the owners corporation looks after common property.
Electrician Greenwich: who deals with which fault?
| What you see | Who to call | What to do first |
|---|---|---|
| A powerline is down in the street | Ausgrid on 13 13 88, if it supplies your home | Stay at least 8 metres away. |
| Only your home has lost power | Us | Look for a tripped safety switch or main switch. |
| A hanging light in your strata lot has failed | The owner, says NSW | Book an electrician. |
| A recessed ceiling light or a common property light has failed | The owners corporation, says NSW | Tell the strata manager. |
Ausgrid says the owner is responsible for the poles and powerlines from the first connection point on the property to the switchboard or meter. If that equipment is damaged, it says repairs must be arranged through a licensed electrical contractor. Ausgrid also says an Authorised and Accredited Service Provider Level 2 (ASP/2) can install, repair or maintain the overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and its network. We hold Level 2 accredited service provider number 5559.
Ausgrid says that if a tree on your own property affects the service wire to your home, you clear the growth up to your property boundary.
Other suburbs we cover include Lane Cove, Longueville, Riverview and St Leonards. Our electricians in the North Shore cover the rest of the region too.

Electrician Greenwich FAQs
The price depends on the job, and we quote it before any work starts. Once you approve it, it’s fixed. Quotes are free, and evening and weekend rates differ.
No call-out fee applies when the booking is for the following day or later. For urgent visits we quote the price first and agree it before work starts.
A safety switch trips when current leaks to earth, and a faulty appliance or circuit can cause it. We trace the circuit behind the trip instead of resetting it.

It depends on the light. NSW says that in most cases lights that hang into your property are the owner’s, and recessed ceiling lights are the owners corporation’s. If it isn’t clear, check your strata plan and by-laws.
NSW requires one, and the person who tests the work submits it within seven days of the test. The portal sends the customer a copy when their email address is added.
