Licensed plumbers for Avalon Beach homes, any hour
A drain that gurgles, a stain spreading on the ceiling or a hot water unit gone cold needs a licensed plumber in Avalon Beach. Our plumber Avalon Beach team takes calls at any hour, day or night.
Every job gets a price before we start, and the price is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, so we quote your visit first.
What plumbing problems show up in Avalon Beach homes?
The 2021 Census counted 2,892 separate houses among Avalon Beach’s 3,561 occupied homes. Here are four common plumbing jobs.
Slow and blocked drains
A gurgling toilet or a sink that drains slowly points to a blockage in the property’s own drain. A camera inspection shows whether clearing a blocked drain will hold or the pipe needs repair.
Leaks out of sight
A water bill that climbs when your use hasn’t changed points to a leak you can’t see. We use hidden leak detection before anything is opened up.
Hot water that runs cold
A unit that goes cold halfway through a shower needs a repair or a replacement. When repairing a hot water unit isn’t worth it, we’ll tell you.
Taps and cisterns that won’t stop
A dripping tap or a cistern that keeps refilling wastes water and lifts the bill. A worn washer or a stuck float valve is the usual cause.
Test your water meter yourself. Turn every tap and appliance off, then watch the dial for a few minutes. If it keeps moving, water is escaping somewhere on the property.
Which pipes are yours in Avalon Beach?
Sydney Water says the property owner is normally responsible for private drinking water and wastewater pipes up to where they connect to its services. Its pipe ownership guide shows where the line falls.
Sydney Water owns the wastewater junction, but the owner is responsible for the connection to it. The owner also clears any tree roots that enter the junction at the point of connection.
Emergency plumber Avalon Beach: any hour, day or night
A pipe that bursts at midnight or a toilet that overflows on a Sunday can’t wait for opening hours. Call 1300 164 206 and a licensed plumber answers. Here’s how our emergency plumbing callouts work.
Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, and you get the price before we start. Find your main tap now, not during a leak. Sydney Water owns the meter at your property and says you must keep it free from damage.
While you wait for us:
- Turn the water off at the main tap.
- Switch off the power at the switchboard if water has reached power points or lights.
- Open the lowest tap in the house to ease the pressure in the pipes.
- Move rugs and valuables off the floor, then keep the area clear.
Gas fitting and hot water for Avalon Beach households
Moving a gas heater, fitting a new cooktop or adding a bayonet point is licensed gasfitting work. Our gas appliance connections cover new lines, appliance swaps and pressure testing.
Hot water comes from a tank unit that stores heated water, or from an instantaneous unit that heats it as it flows. Either type runs on gas or electricity. Your choice depends on the household and the space for the unit.
Is your block on bush fire prone land, and are you building? The NSW Rural Fire Service says water and gas supplies need to be provided so that any above-ground pipes are made out of metal. Northern Beaches Council has an online mapping tool for checking whether a property is covered.
If you smell gas in your property, NSW says to exit the building immediately, call 000 and ask for the NSW Fire Service. Call us once you’re outside, at any hour.

Do I need approval for plumbing work in Avalon Beach?
Plumbing work has its own paperwork. A plumber submits a Notice of Work before starting a job that needs an inspection. NSW lists emergency work and minor works, such as replacing tap ware or an existing hot water system, as cases where one isn’t needed.
A Certificate of Compliance confirms the finished work complies with the plumbing regulations and the Plumbing Code of Australia. Ask for your copy and keep it with the house papers.
Northern Beaches Council says new development or building work on bush fire prone land must comply with the NSW Rural Fire Service’s Planning for Bushfire Protection (2019). It also publishes an online Flood Hazard Map showing land identified as flood prone, and it can provide Flood Information Reports.
Plumbing in Avalon Beach: the village, the mains and the homes
Northern Beaches Council’s 2018 Avalon Village snapshot describes Avalon Beach as sitting on a peninsula, flanked by a beach on the east and Pittwater on the west. It names Old Barrenjoey Road and Avalon Parade as the high streets. The NSW Electoral Commission lists Avalon Beach among the localities that the Northern Beaches council area includes partially or wholly.
Avalon Beach homes in the 2021 Census

In 2021, 2,892 occupied homes were separate houses and 559 were rented. NSW says a tenant must tell the landlord or agent straight away about an urgent repair, and a burst water service is on its list. A house left empty for weeks can leak unseen, so check the meter dial before you go away.
Sydney Water says relining a pipe means inserting a liner through the maintenance holes at either end, and those holes are often in backyards. It also says the pipe must be structurally sound, and a damaged pipe needs the affected section replaced first. If a private drain has a crack, a camera inspection shows whether relining a damaged pipe is an option.
Plumber Avalon Beach: repair or replace the hot water unit?
| What you see | Repair or replace | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| The unit runs cold partway through a shower | Repair first | A worn part such as a thermostat or element can be swapped without changing the unit. |
| Water leaks from the body of the tank | Replace | A leaking tank can’t be patched. |
| Repairs keep coming back on an old unit | Compare both | We’ll set the repair bills against a replacement with you. |
