Plumber Freshwater
Blocked drains, leaks, hot water and gas fitting for Freshwater flats and houses, fixed by licensed local plumbers who quote first.
Licensed plumbers for Freshwater units and houses, any hour
A tap that won’t stop dripping, a toilet that won’t clear or a cold hot water unit needs a licensed plumber in Freshwater. Our plumber Freshwater team takes calls at any hour, day or night.
Every job gets a price before we start, and the price is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, so we quote your visit first.
What plumbing jobs come up in Freshwater flats and houses?
The 2021 Census counted 1,899 flats or apartments among Freshwater’s 3,577 occupied homes. Here are four jobs we get called to.
Toilets and sinks that won’t clear
A gurgling bathroom or a basin that drains slowly points to a blockage in the pipe. A camera shows whether clearing a blocked drain will hold or the pipe needs repair.
Taps that drip all night
A worn washer or a tired cartridge lets water through when the tap is off. Fixing a dripping tap is a short job, and a steady drip adds up on the water bill.
Hot water that runs out early
A unit that goes cold halfway through a shower needs a repair or a replacement. When repairing a hot water unit isn’t worth it, we’ll say so.
Damp patches and climbing bills
A stain on a ceiling or a rising bill points to a leak you can’t see. We offer hidden leak detection before anything is opened up.
You can test for a leak at home. Turn every tap and appliance off, then watch the water meter dial for a few minutes. If it keeps turning, water is escaping somewhere.
Who looks after which pipes in Freshwater?
Sydney Water says the owner is normally responsible for private water and wastewater systems. That runs up to where they connect to its services. Sydney Water owns the wastewater junction, and the owner is responsible for the connection to it.
In a strata building, the NSW Government says the owners corporation or strata committee must repair and maintain common property. Property owners must repair and maintain anything within their property.
For a unit, NSW lists plumbing in internal walls and fixtures, such as baths, toilets, sinks and showers, as the owner’s in most cases. It lists plumbing in boundary walls and under the floor as the owners corporation’s. Ask your strata manager or committee which one applies before you book.
Emergency plumber Freshwater: any hour, day or night
A pipe that bursts at 2 am or a toilet that overflows on a Sunday can’t wait for opening hours. Call 1300 164 206 and a licensed plumber answers. Read more about our emergency plumbing callouts.
Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, and you get the price before we start. Sydney Water owns the water meter and says you must keep it free from damage. In a block of units, ask your strata manager where the building’s shut-off valve is before you need it.
Until we get there:
- Turn the water off at the main tap or the building’s shut-off valve.
- Switch the power off at the board if water is near power points or lights.
- Open the lowest tap to ease the pressure in the pipes.
- Lift towels, rugs and bags off the floor, then keep the area clear.
Hot water and gas for Freshwater homes and units
A tank unit stores heated water. An instantaneous unit heats water as it flows. Both types run on gas or electricity, and the right one depends on the household and the room for the unit.
We’ll tell you if a repair is worth paying for or a replacement makes more sense.
NSW says all gas installations must be carried out by a licensed gasfitter. That covers a new cooktop, a heater move or a bayonet point. Our gas appliance connections cover new lines, swaps and pressure testing.
If you smell gas in your property, NSW says to exit the building immediately, call 000 and ask for the NSW Fire Service. Once you’re outside, call us at any time.

Do I need approval for plumbing work in Freshwater?
Plumbing has its own paperwork. A Notice of Work outlines the plumbing and drainage work to be carried out, and plumbers submit one before starting work that needs an inspection. NSW says emergency work and minor works don’t need one sent to Building Commission NSW or the local plumbing regulator. Replacing tap ware or an existing hot water system counts as minor works.
A Certificate of Compliance confirms the work complies with the plumbing regulations and the Plumbing Code of Australia. It names the plumber as the responsible person for that work. Keep your copy with the home’s papers.
If you’re buying or renovating, Northern Beaches Council publishes an online Flood Hazard Map showing land identified as flood prone. It says the mapped extents are indicative only, and a Flood Information Report is available from Council.
Plumbing in Freshwater: beach, village and strata blocks
Northern Beaches Council’s 2019 Freshwater Village snapshot says the village is 500 metres inland from Freshwater Beach. The NSW Electoral Commission lists Freshwater among the localities the Northern Beaches council area includes partially or wholly.
Freshwater homes in the 2021 Census
Source: ABS Census QuickStats. The ABS makes small random changes to figures for privacy.
In 2021, 1,899 of Freshwater’s occupied homes were flats or apartments, so strata rules decide who repairs what in many buildings. The Census also counted 1,308 rented homes. NSW lists a burst water service and a blocked or broken toilet as urgent repairs in a rental, and the tenant must tell the landlord or agent straight away.
Plumber Freshwater: whose job is the leak in a unit block?
| What you see | Whose job | What NSW says |
|---|---|---|
| A leaking tap or toilet inside your unit | The owner of the unit | Plumbing in internal walls and fixtures, such as baths, toilets, sinks and showers, is listed as the owner’s. |
| Water damage coming from inside your unit | The owner of the unit | NSW lists water damage coming from inside your property under the owner. |
| Plumbing in boundary walls or under the floor | The owners corporation | NSW lists it as a common property repair. |
| Water damage coming from common property | The owners corporation | NSW lists it under the owners corporation in most cases. |
If a drain has a crack, a camera inspection shows whether relining a damaged pipe is an option. Sydney Water describes its own relining work this way. A liner goes in through maintenance holes at either end, and the pipe must be structurally sound for the method to work.
We also look after Queenscliff, Curl Curl, Brookvale and Manly. See the other suburbs our Northern Beaches plumbers cover.
