Fault finding, safety switches, lighting and appliance circuits for Freshwater flats and houses, done by licensed local electricians.
Licensed electricians for Freshwater flats and houses, any hour
A safety switch that won’t stay on, a dead power point or a flickering light needs a licensed electrician in Freshwater. Our electrician Freshwater team takes calls at any hour.
We agree the price before work starts, and it’s fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, so you hear the price for your visit first.
What electrical faults turn up in Freshwater homes?
The 2021 Census counted 3,577 occupied homes in Freshwater, and 1,184 of them are owned with a mortgage. Here are the faults we’re called to.
A switchboard is the panel that splits incoming power into separate circuits. A safety switch is a device that cuts power when current leaks to earth. When one keeps tripping, our fault finding service traces the circuit behind it.
Old ceramic fuses or no safety switch on the power circuits need attention before a new oven or air conditioner goes on. We quote a switchboard repair or upgrade as a fixed job.
Signs the board needs a look
- A safety switch that trips again minutes after a reset
- Lights that dim whenever the kettle or oven comes on
- A warm panel or a burning smell near the board
- Fuse wire or ceramic fuses where breakers should be
Lights, fans and appliances for Freshwater flats and houses
Smoke alarms only work if they’re tested, so press the button on each one regularly. We fit and replace smoke alarm installations in houses and units.
Swapping old halogen downlights for LED lighting upgrades lowers the load on a circuit. A ceiling fan needs a firm fixing, since it hangs from the ceiling and moves all day.
A wall oven, an induction cooktop or a reverse cycle air conditioner needs its own circuit in most homes. If the board is full, that work comes first. We install appliance circuits from the board to the appliance.
Balcony lights and outdoor power points need weatherproof fittings and a safety switch on their circuit.
Emergency electrician Freshwater: any hour, day or night
A burning smell, sparking or a board that won’t hold can’t wait for morning. Call 1300 164 206, and a licensed electrician answers. We take calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and quote the price before work starts.
If you have power in some parts of your home, or your neighbours have power and you don’t, Ausgrid says the problem might be inside your home.
While you wait:
- Ask a neighbour or look down the street to see if the power is out there too.
- Look at the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug whatever was running when the power failed.
- Keep clear of any fallen line and treat it as live.
Ausgrid says to stay at least 8 metres, or two car lengths, away from fallen wires. If Ausgrid supplies your home, report faults and emergencies to it on 13 13 88. In a life-threatening situation, call triple zero.
Ausgrid says a Level 2 accredited service provider can install, repair or maintain service lines between a customer’s installation and its network. We hold Level 2 accreditation, number 5559. Read more about our emergency electrician callouts.

Do I get a certificate after electrical work in Freshwater?
Yes, the person who tests the work submits a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work to Building Commission NSW. NSW says that must happen no later than seven days after the test.
From 1 July 2026, it goes through the eCert portal, and paper and PDF forms are no longer accepted. The customer is emailed a copy when their email address is added.
Electrician Freshwater: unit blocks, tenants and the network
Northern Beaches Council’s 2019 Freshwater Village snapshot says shops and services are concentrated on Lawrence and Albert Streets. It says the town centre is zoned mixed-use, with retail on the ground floor. Redevelopment on those streets has brought in shop-top housing.
Freshwater homes in the 2021 Census
Source: ABS Census QuickStats. The ABS makes small random changes to figures for privacy.
In 2021 the Census counted 1,308 rented homes. For a rental, NSW lists a dangerous electrical fault and a failure of the electricity supply as urgent repairs. The tenant must tell the landlord or agent straight away.
Ausgrid says its network spans Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley. If Ausgrid supplies your home, it says it maintains and repairs its network in the street. All work from the first point of connection on the property is the customer’s installation. Ausgrid says a Level 2 electrician can install, repair or maintain the service lines between a customer installation and its network.
Electrician Freshwater: whose job is the light in a unit block?

| A light recessed into the ceiling | The owners corporation | NSW lists any lights recessed into the ceiling as the owners corporation’s. |
| A light in a shared area | The owners corporation | NSW lists lights on common property under the owners corporation. |
| A broken appliance in your unit | The owner of the unit | NSW lists broken appliances or whitegoods as the owner’s. |

A licensed electrician inspects the fault and gives you a fixed price before work starts. No call-out fee applies when the booking is for the following day or later.
A safety switch trips when it detects current leaking to earth, so a fault on one circuit is the usual cause. Unplug everything on that circuit and reset it. Call us if it trips again.
It depends on the light. NSW lists lights that hang into your property as the owner’s, and lights recessed into the ceiling or on common property as the owners corporation’s.
