Electrician Clontarf
Fault finding, switchboard upgrades, lighting and appliance circuits, done by licensed local electricians who answer day or night.
Electrical help for Clontarf households around the clock
A power point that sparks, a safety switch that keeps tripping or a light that flickers needs a licensed electrician in Clontarf. Our electrician Clontarf team takes calls at any hour.
We price every job before work starts, and the figure is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so we quote the price for your visit first.
What electrical faults come up in Clontarf houses?
The switchboard is the panel that splits the incoming power into circuits. It holds the breakers and safety switches. A safety switch is a device that cuts the power in a fraction of a second when current leaks to earth.
A board with ceramic fuses needs a closer look before anything new goes on. So does one with no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits. Our fixed price board upgrades are quoted as a fixed job.
When a switch trips again after you reset it, resetting it isn’t the fix. We use methodical fault tracing to find the circuit and the cause.
Signs a board needs a closer look
- A safety switch that trips again soon after you reset it
- Lights that dim when the oven or heater starts
- A switchboard that feels warm or smells of burning
- Ceramic fuses where breakers should be
Lighting, cooling and appliance circuits for Clontarf homes
An induction cooktop or a new wall oven needs a circuit of its own. In an older home, the board may need work first. We confirm the appliance rating before we quote.
Old halogen downlights run hot and draw more power than LEDs. Swapping them cuts the load on the circuit. A new ceiling fan needs a secure fixing as well as a circuit that can run it.
Outdoor lights and power points need weatherproof fittings and a safety switch on their circuit. Have the board checked before an EV charger or a reverse cycle air conditioner goes in.
Emergency electrician Clontarf: any hour, day or night
No power, a burning smell or a board that won’t reset deserves a call straight away on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and agree the price with you before work starts. Here’s how our urgent electrical callouts work.
If the power goes out:
- Look at the street. Check whether the streetlights and your neighbours have power.
- Check your board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug the appliance that was running when the power dropped.
- Treat any fallen wire as live, and keep well back.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, report an outage or a fallen powerline to Ausgrid on 13 13 88, available 24 hours. Ausgrid says to stay at least 8 metres, or 2 car lengths, from fallen wires. Call triple zero in a life-threatening situation.
A damaged service wire or private pole needs a qualified electrician. If Ausgrid supplies your home, it says it can’t repair customer equipment past the connection point. We’re a Level 2 accredited service provider (number 5559). Ausgrid says that level can install, repair or maintain service lines between a customer’s installation and its network.

Do I get a compliance certificate after electrical work in Clontarf?
Yes, for work that needs one. The person who tests the work submits a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. NSW says that must happen as soon as practical, and no later than seven days after the test.
From 1 July 2026, NSW says these go through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal. Paper and PDF forms are no longer accepted. The electrician can add your email address to the certificate. The system then sends you a copy. The NSW electrical compliance page sets out the rules.
Electrical work in Clontarf: houses, rentals and the supply line
Clontarf is in the Northern Beaches Council area. The 2021 Census counted 544 separate houses among its 577 occupied homes.

A separate house has its own wiring and switchboard to look after. Does your property have a private pole? If Ausgrid supplies your home, Ausgrid says owners look after electrical assets beyond its connection point. That includes private poles, powerlines and pole-top fittings. Its private poles and powerlines page has the detail.
The Census counted 44 rented homes. NSW lists a dangerous electrical fault as an urgent repair, and tenants must tell the landlord or agent straight away. Landlords must also use a licensed electrician to repair or replace a hard-wired smoke alarm. Our smoke alarm installation covers that work.
Electrician Clontarf: who deals with which fault?
| What you see | Whose side it’s on | What happens next |
|---|---|---|
| Your neighbours have power and you don’t | Ausgrid says the problem might be inside your home | A licensed electrician traces the fault. |
| The whole street is dark or a wire is down | Ausgrid, if it supplies your home | Report it to Ausgrid online or on 13 13 88. |
| A damaged service wire or private pole | The owner’s equipment past the connection point | A qualified electrician repairs it. |
| A tripping safety switch or dead power points | Your home’s wiring | A licensed electrician finds the faulty circuit. |

The switch is cutting power because current is leaking to earth on that circuit. Treat a repeat trip as a fault to find, not a switch to keep resetting. Our electricians trace the circuit and fix the cause.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, report the outage to Ausgrid on 13 13 88, which is available 24 hours. Report fallen poles or trees on wires there too. Call triple zero in a life-threatening situation.
