Electrician Dee Why
Fault finding, switchboards, smoke alarms and lighting in Dee Why units and houses, done by licensed local electricians who quote first.
A licensed electrician for Dee Why units and houses, day or night
A safety switch that won’t stay on or a power point gone dead needs a licensed electrician in Dee Why. Our electrician Dee Why team takes calls at any hour.
We agree the price before work starts, and it’s fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, so you hear the price first.
What electrical faults turn up in Dee Why flats and houses?
The 2021 Census counted 9,863 occupied homes in Dee Why, and 8,073 of them are flats or apartments. In a strata building, NSW says the owners corporation looks after common property and owners repair anything within their own property.
A switchboard is the panel that splits the incoming power into circuits. A safety switch is a device that cuts power when current leaks to earth. When one trips again after a reset, tracing the fault circuit is the next step.
A crowded board needs a look before you add a new appliance. So does one with no safety switch on the power circuits. A board upgrade is quoted as a fixed job.
Warning signs at the board
- A safety switch that drops out whenever you run the hair dryer
- A buzzing or crackling sound from the panel
- Power points that feel warm or look scorched
- A burning smell near the board
Smoke alarms, lights and appliances in Dee Why units
NSW Fair Trading says landlords must make sure smoke alarms work. They must use a licensed electrician to repair or replace a hard-wired one. A landlord must repair or replace a faulty alarm within two business days of finding out. Our smoke alarm installation work is done by licensed electricians.
Strata schemes follow the same rules unless four conditions are all met. One of them is that the alarms are hard-wired, or battery operated with the owners corporation responsible for repairs. In a strata property, NSW says the tenancy agreement shows who is responsible for repairing or replacing an alarm unit.
A new oven, cooktop or air conditioner goes on a circuit that suits its load. We handle fitting a new appliance from the board to the plug. Swapping tired downlights for LED downlights is a job we quote as a fixed price.
Emergency electrician Dee Why: any hour, day or night
A scorched socket, a smell of burning or a board that won’t reset can’t wait for morning. Call 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and quote the price before work starts.
Ausgrid says the problem might be inside your home if you have power in some parts of it. The same goes if your neighbours have power and you don’t. Check the street first.
While you wait:
- Look at your neighbours’ windows and the streetlights.
- Check the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug whatever was running when the power dropped.
- Keep well clear of any fallen line.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, it asks you to report faults and emergencies on 13 13 88, staffed 24 hours. It says to stay at least 8 metres, or two car lengths, from fallen wires. In a life-threatening situation, call triple zero first.
Ausgrid says an Authorised and Accredited Service Provider Level 2 can install, repair or maintain the overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and Ausgrid’s network. We hold Level 2 accreditation, number 5559. See our emergency electrical callouts.

Do I get a certificate after electrical work in Dee Why?
Yes. NSW says any electrical wiring work must be done by, or under the supervision of, a licensed electrician. The person who carries out the electrical test must submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.
It’s due as soon as practical, and no later than seven days after the test. From 1 July 2026 it goes through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal, and handwritten and PDF forms are no longer accepted. The customer is emailed a copy when their email address is added.
Electrician Dee Why: tenants, owners and the strata building
Ausgrid says its network spans Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley. If Ausgrid supplies your home, its page on private poles and powerlines says property owners maintain the poles and powerlines from the first point of connection on the property. That runs to the switchboard or meter.

In the 4,670 rented homes, the NSW Government lists a dangerous electrical fault as an urgent repair. The tenant must tell the landlord or agent straight away. NSW says owners repair anything within their own property.
The NSW strata repairs guide splits lights and appliances between the owner and the owners corporation in most cases. For work on service lines, see our Level 2 electrician page.
