Electrician Cromer
Fault finding, switchboard upgrades, lighting and appliance circuits, done by licensed local electricians who take calls day or night.
Cromer electrical work, from tripping switches to new circuits
A safety switch that won’t stay on, a dead power point or lights that flicker when the oven starts need a licensed electrician in Cromer. Our electrician Cromer team takes calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The price is agreed before work starts, and it’s fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, so we quote your visit first.
What electrical problems affect Cromer homes?
The 2021 Census counted 2,633 occupied homes in Cromer, and 1,260 of them have four or more bedrooms. ABS puts the average household at three people.
A switchboard is the panel that splits incoming power into circuits. A safety switch is a device that cuts power when current leaks to earth. When one trips again after a reset, tracing the faulty circuit finds the cause, so you’re not resetting it again next week.
A board with ceramic fuses, or with no safety switch on the lights and power points, needs a look before more load goes on it. Upgrading the switchboard is quoted as a fixed job.
Signs your board needs attention
- A safety switch that trips soon after you reset it
- Lights that dim when the kettle or oven switches on
- A panel that feels warm or smells of burning
- Ceramic fuses where circuit breakers should be
Lighting, fans and new appliances for Cromer homes
Swapping old halogen downlights for LED lighting lowers the load on a lighting circuit. A ceiling fan needs a solid fixing and a circuit that can carry it. Ceiling fan fitting is wiring work, so it’s a job for a licensed electrician.
A cooktop, a wall oven or a reverse cycle air conditioner draws far more power than a lamp. Check the unit’s rating before you buy, then have us look at the board. We handle appliance circuit work from the board to the appliance.
Outdoor power points and garden lights need weatherproof fittings and a safety switch on their circuit. Press the test button on each safety switch a couple of times a year. Test your smoke alarms as well.
Emergency electrician Cromer: any hour, day or night
Sparks, a burning smell or a board that won’t reset can’t wait for morning. Call 1300 164 206 and we’ll quote the price before work starts. Here’s how our emergency electrical callouts work.
Ausgrid says that if your neighbours have power and you don’t, the problem might be inside your home. It also asks whether the streetlights are out.
While you wait:
- Ask a neighbour whether their power is on.
- Look at the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug whatever was running when the power failed.
- Treat every fallen line as live and stay clear.
Ausgrid says to stay at least 8 metres, or two car lengths, from fallen wires. Report faults and emergencies to Ausgrid on 13 13 88, which it staffs 24 hours. In a life-threatening situation, call triple zero first.

What certificate follows electrical work in Cromer?
NSW requires a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. By law, any electrical wiring work must be done by, or under the supervision of, a licensed electrician. The person who carries out the electrical test submits the certificate, no later than seven days after the test.
It goes through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal, and from 1 July 2026 paper and PDF forms are no longer accepted. The customer is emailed a copy when their email address is added. NSW says the certificate shows the work has been tested and complies with the Gas and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2017, its Regulation and relevant Australian Standards. Keep it with the house papers.
Electrician Cromer: owners, renters and the network
Ausgrid says its network covers Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley, and it publishes a postcode checker that shows which distribution network you’re in. If Ausgrid supplies your home, report faults and fallen lines to it. Ausgrid says owners are responsible for private poles, powerlines and pole-top fittings beyond its connection point.
Ausgrid says a Level 2 accredited service provider, or ASP/2, can install, repair or maintain the overhead or underground service lines between a customer’s installation and its network. We hold Level 2 accreditation, number 5559. Read more about Level 2 electrician work.
Cromer homes in the 2021 Census
Source: ABS Census QuickStats. The ABS makes small random changes to figures for privacy.
The Census counted 396 rented homes. NSW lists a dangerous electrical fault as an urgent repair in a rental, and the tenant tells the landlord or agent straight away.
Electrician Cromer: what a bigger load asks of the board
| New load | What it needs | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Induction cooktop | A circuit sized to its rating | The rating on the cooktop’s label |
| Reverse cycle air conditioner | A circuit sized to the unit | Spare room in the switchboard |
| Electric vehicle charger | A circuit for the charger | How much capacity the board has left |
An EV charger is a large new load, so the board’s spare capacity matters. See our EV charger installation service. Before you buy any large appliance, read the rating label, because it tells an electrician what the circuit has to carry.
Other suburbs we cover include Dee Why, Narraweena, Collaroy and Wheeler Heights. Our electricians in the Northern Beaches cover the rest of the region too.
