Electrician Collaroy
Faults, switchboards, safety switches and lighting fixed by licensed local electricians who quote the price before work starts.
Licensed electricians for Collaroy flats and houses, any hour
A safety switch that keeps tripping, a dead power point or a flat with no power needs a licensed electrician in Collaroy. Our electrician Collaroy team takes calls at any hour.
Flats make up 1,589 of Collaroy’s 2,986 occupied homes, so who owns the wiring matters. The price is agreed before work starts and fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so we quote your visit first.
What electrical faults turn up in Collaroy units and houses?
The 2021 Census counted 888 rented homes among Collaroy’s 2,986 occupied homes. In a rental, NSW lists a dangerous electrical fault as an urgent repair. The tenant tells the landlord or agent straight away.
A switchboard is the panel where incoming power splits into separate circuits. A safety switch is a device that shuts off a circuit when current leaks to earth. If one keeps tripping after a reset, tracing the faulty circuit finds the cause instead of resetting and hoping.
A board with ceramic fuses, or no safety switch on the lighting and power circuits, needs a look before any new load goes on. A switchboard upgrade is quoted as a fixed job.
Signs the board needs attention
- A safety switch that trips soon after a reset
- Lights that dim when the oven or air conditioner starts
- A switchboard that’s warm to touch or smells of burning
- Ceramic fuses where circuit breakers should be
Lighting, cooling and appliances for Collaroy homes
A ceiling fan hangs from a fixing that has to carry its weight and its movement. The wiring behind the switch has to match. Swapping old halogen downlights for LED fittings cuts the load on the lighting circuit.
New ovens, cooktops and air conditioners are wired on their own circuits. A full board needs work before one goes in. Our appliance installation work runs from the board to the appliance.
Outdoor power points and garden lights need weatherproof fittings and a safety switch on their circuit. Smoke alarms need a regular test too.
Emergency electrician Collaroy: call any hour, day or night
Sparks, a burning smell or a board that won’t reset can’t wait for morning. Call 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and agree the price before work starts. See how our emergency electrician visits work.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, it sends an outage SMS to the primary account holder, the person named on the bill. It also asks you to check the street first.
While you wait:
- Check whether the streetlights and your neighbours’ lights are on.
- Look at your board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Switch off and unplug sensitive equipment such as TVs and computers.
- Treat any fallen line as live and keep at least 8 metres away.
Ausgrid asks you to report faults and emergencies on 13 13 88, which is staffed 24 hours. In a life-threatening situation, call triple zero first. If you run a generator, never connect it to the house switchboard or wiring.
If Ausgrid supplies your home and your power stays off after the street’s comes back, Ausgrid says to report it. Its officers do a free check of your meter and connection wire. Ausgrid can’t repair customer equipment past the connection point. A damaged service wire needs a qualified electrician.
Ausgrid says a Level 2 accredited service provider can install, repair or maintain service lines between a customer’s installation and its network. We hold Level 2 accreditation, number 5559.

Do I get a certificate after electrical work in Collaroy?
Yes, for work that needs one. NSW says the person who carries out the electrical test submits a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work to Building Commission NSW. That must happen as soon as practical, and no later than seven days after the test.
Since 1 July 2026, the Building Commission NSW eCert portal is the only route. Handwritten and PDF forms are no longer accepted. The customer is emailed a copy when the electrician adds their email address.
NSW adds that the certificate can help a customer with warranty on the electrical article that was installed. Keep your copy with your unit or house records.
Electrician Collaroy: flats, tenants and the power supply
Ausgrid says its network runs through Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley. If Ausgrid supplies your home, you look after the electrical assets beyond its connection point. That includes private power poles, powerlines and pole-top fittings.
Collaroy homes in the 2021 Census

More than half of Collaroy’s occupied homes are flats. In a strata building, the NSW Government strata repairs page says the owners corporation repairs common property. In most cases the owner repairs lights that hang into their unit, and the owners corporation repairs recessed ceiling lights and lights on common property. If you can’t find the answer, check your strata plan and by-laws.
Electrician Collaroy: which lights are yours to fix in a flat?
| Light or fitting | Who repairs it | What to do first |
|---|---|---|
| A light that hangs into your unit | The owner | Call us. Check the by-laws if you’re unsure. |
| A light recessed into the ceiling | The owners corporation | Tell your strata manager. |
| A light in a shared hallway | The owners corporation | Report it to your building or strata manager. |
