Electrician Chifley
Dead power points, tripping safety switches and new circuits, fixed by licensed local electricians who quote the price first.
Licensed electricians for Chifley houses, townhouses and units
Lights that dim when the air conditioner starts, or a power point that’s gone dead, need a licensed electrician in Chifley. Our electrician Chifley team takes calls at any hour.
Every job is priced before work starts, and the price is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ from daytime rates, so we give you the price first.
Which electrical faults do Chifley homes see?
The 2021 Census counted 1,151 occupied homes in Chifley. A switchboard is the panel that splits the incoming power into circuits and holds the breakers and safety switches.
A safety switch is a device that cuts the power in a split second when current leaks to earth. When one keeps tripping, fault tracing for repeat trips finds the circuit behind it instead of just resetting it.
Some boards still have ceramic fuses. Others have breakers but no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits. Both need a closer look before a new circuit goes on, and a switchboard upgrade is quoted as a fixed job.
Signs your switchboard needs a look
- A safety switch that trips again straight after a reset
- Lights that dim when the oven or air conditioner starts
- A panel that’s warm to touch or smells burnt
- Ceramic fuses where breakers should be
Electrician Chifley: lights, fans and appliance circuits
Old halogen downlights draw more power than LEDs. Swapping them for LED lighting upgrades takes load off the circuit. A new fan needs a secure fixing and a circuit that can run it. See our ceiling fan fitting work.
A new oven, cooktop or air conditioner needs a circuit that can carry it. Our oven and cooktop fitting runs from the board to the appliance.
An EV charger is another load for the board to carry. We handle EV charger installation for Chifley homes.
Emergency electrician Chifley: any hour, day or night
No power, sparks or a board that won’t reset deserves a call on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and quote the price before work starts. See how our urgent electrical callouts work.
- Look out the window. Check whether the streetlights are out and your neighbours have power.
- If only your home is dark, look at the board for a tripped safety switch.
- Stay at least 8 metres, or two car lengths, away from fallen wires or powerlines.
- Call triple zero (000) if anyone is in a life-threatening situation.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, call it on 13 13 88 (24 hours). Report fallen or arcing powerlines, dangerous leaning poles and exposed underground cables. Its page on electrical emergencies lists what to report.
If you run a generator in an outage, Ausgrid says never connect it to the house switchboard or wiring. Only use it to power appliances directly.

Does electrical work in Chifley come with a certificate?
NSW requires electricians to give Building Commission NSW a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, which shows the work has been tested and complies with the regulation and standards. The person who tests the work submits it as soon as practical and no later than seven days after the test. Since 1 July 2026 that has to go through the BCNSW eCert portal. Handwritten and PDF forms are no longer accepted.
The customer gets a copy by email when the electrician adds the customer’s email address in the portal. Keep it with the house papers.
Electrician Chifley: homes, the network and who to call
Randwick City Council’s precinct list names Chifley in two precincts: Matraville (part of Chifley) and Bays and Beaches (South Chifley). Ausgrid says its network spans 22,275 square kilometres along the east coast, in Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley. That page doesn’t name Chifley, so check Ausgrid’s network area page to see which network you’re in.

Electrician Chifley: who do I call?
| What you see | Who to call | What to do first |
|---|---|---|
| The streetlights and your neighbours’ lights are out too | Ausgrid on 13 13 88, if Ausgrid supplies your home | Check Ausgrid’s outage map, then report it. |
| Only your home has lost power | Us | Look for a tripped safety switch or main switch. |
| A powerline or a tree is down across wires | Ausgrid on 13 13 88, if Ausgrid supplies your home | Stay at least 8 metres away. |
| An Ausgrid defect notice has arrived | The original electrician, or a Level 2 provider such as us if you can’t reach them | Contact them to arrange the repair. |
If you have private overhead powerlines, Ausgrid says keeping them free of vegetation is your job. It calls trimming near powerlines highly dangerous. It says accredited workers must do it.
Ausgrid says an Authorised and Accredited Service Provider Level 2 (ASP/2) can install, repair or maintain service lines. These run between a customer installation and Ausgrid’s electricity network. Our Level 2 number is 5559. See our Level 2 electrician page.
Our electricians also work in Matraville, Malabar, Little Bay and Maroubra. To check your suburb, see where our Eastern Suburbs electricians work.
