Electrician Coogee
Fault finding, switchboard upgrades, smoke alarms and appliance circuits, done by licensed local electricians who answer day or night.
Local electricians for Coogee homes, any hour
A power point that sparks or a safety switch that won’t reset needs a licensed electrician in Coogee. Our electrician Coogee team answers calls at any hour, for flats, townhouses and houses.
Every job is priced before work starts, and the figure holds once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ, so we quote the price for your visit first.
What electrical faults come up in Coogee flats and houses?
Most of Coogee is flats: 4,961 of the 6,206 occupied homes in the 2021 Census. Each home has a switchboard. That’s the panel where power splits into circuits, with breakers and safety switches on each one.
A safety switch is a device that cuts power in a fraction of a second when current leaks to earth. When one keeps tripping, fault tracing for repeat trips finds the circuit behind the trip.
Some boards still carry ceramic fuses, or have no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits. We quote a switchboard upgrade as one fixed price once we’ve seen the board.
Signs your board needs attention
- A safety switch that won’t stay on after a reset
- A buzzing sound or a hot smell near the panel
- Power points that feel warm to the touch
- Lights that dim when the kettle or heater starts
Smoke alarms, air conditioning and lighting for Coogee homes
Every home needs working smoke alarms. We fit new smoke alarms fitted in flats and houses, including linked alarms.
A reverse cycle air conditioner or an induction cooktop runs on its own circuit. The board has to carry the extra load. We handle fitting a new cooktop from the switchboard to the appliance.
Old halogen downlights draw more power than LED ones. Swapping them cuts the load.
Emergency electrician Coogee: any hour, day or night

- Look outside. If the neighbours’ lights are off too and Ausgrid supplies your home, report the outage to it on 13 13 88.
- If only your home is dark, check the board for a tripped safety switch or main switch.
- Unplug the heater or appliance that was running.
- Treat any fallen wire as live and stay at least 8 metres, or two car lengths, away.
Ausgrid says to report electrical faults and emergencies on 13 13 88 (24 hours), and to call triple zero 000 in a life-threatening situation.
Ausgrid says an Authorised and Accredited Service Provider Level 2 (ASP/2) can install, repair or maintain the overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and its network. We hold Level 2 accreditation (number 5559).
Ausgrid also says all work from the first point of connection on the property is the customer’s electrical installation. The customer is responsible for keeping it safe and properly maintained. Once supply is back, we can check the wiring on your side of the meter.

Do I get a compliance certificate for electrical work in Coogee?
NSW says the tester must submit the Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work to Building Commission NSW. It must be submitted no later than seven days after the electrical test. From 1 July 2026 it has to go through the BCNSW eCert portal, and PDF and hard copy forms are no longer accepted.
The customer is emailed a copy when their email address is added in the portal. Keep it with your records.
Electrician Coogee: flats, landlords and the Ausgrid network
The NSW Electoral Commission lists Coogee among the localities Randwick City Council covers in whole or in part. If Ausgrid supplies your home, its 13 13 88 line is the number for a street outage.

More than half of Coogee’s occupied homes were rented. NSW says landlords must repair or replace a smoke alarm within two business days of finding out it’s not working. They must also check alarms every year. The NSW page notes some exceptions for strata schemes.
In a strata building, NSW says the owners corporation looks after lights on common property and any lights recessed into the ceiling. Lights that hang into your property, and broken appliances, are the owner’s.
