Electrician Bondi
Switchboards, faults, smoke alarms and EV chargers in Bondi flats and homes, done by licensed local electricians who answer day or night.
An electrician for Bondi flats and terraces, at any hour
A flat that loses power while the neighbours’ lights stay on needs a licensed electrician in Bondi. Our electrician Bondi team takes calls at any hour. We work in apartment blocks, terraces and houses.
Every job is priced before work starts, and the price is fixed once you approve it. Our evening and weekend rates differ from daytime ones, and we tell you the price first.
Which electrical problems affect Bondi apartments and terraces?
In the 2021 Census, 3,569 of Bondi’s 4,484 occupied homes were flats or apartments. Each one still has a switchboard. That’s the panel that holds the main switch, the circuit breakers and, in newer boards, the safety switches.
A safety switch shuts off a circuit the instant current starts leaking to earth. That leak can run through a person. When one trips again after a reset, we trace the circuit behind it instead of leaving you to keep resetting.
A board full of ceramic fuses, or one with no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits, needs a look before anything new goes on. Upgrading an old switchboard is quoted as a fixed job.
Signs that something is wrong
- A safety switch that keeps tripping with the appliances unplugged
- Lights that dim when the oven or a heater starts
- A warm switch plate, or a burning smell at the board
- A tingle or shock from a tap, an appliance or a power point
A tingle from a tap isn’t normal. Ausgrid says not to touch or re-test the spot, and to keep others away until Ausgrid and a licensed electrician say it’s safe. It also warns against touching wet switchboards or wet appliances.
Cooktops, air conditioners and EV chargers in a Bondi flat
A new cooktop, wall oven or reverse cycle unit needs a circuit rated for it. In a flat, the switchboard needs spare room before the new circuit goes in.
An EV charger in a flat has an extra step. NSW says owners must ask the owners corporation for approval before connecting any EV charging equipment. In most cases, installing charging infrastructure is a change to common property. The owner or tenant pays for the charger itself.
Once the approval is in place, our electricians fit a home EV charger. A tenant starts with the landlord, as the table below shows.
Emergency electrician Bondi: any hour, day or night
No power in your flat, sparks or a board that won’t reset deserves a call on 1300 164 206 straight away. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we agree the price before work starts. See how our emergency electrical callouts work.
- Check whether the whole building is dark, not just your flat.
- Look for a tripped safety switch or main switch at your board.
- Unplug the appliance that was running when the power went.
- Treat any fallen wire as live and keep well back.
If Ausgrid supplies your home, it takes faults and emergencies on 13 13 88, 24 hours a day. It says to stay at least 8 metres, or two car lengths, from fallen wires, and to call triple zero (000) if anyone’s life is at risk.
Ausgrid says a Level 2 accredited service provider can install, repair or maintain the service lines between a customer installation and its network. We’re a Level 2 accredited service provider, number 5559.

Will I get a certificate for electrical work in Bondi?
NSW requires a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. The person who tests the work submits it to Building Commission NSW, no later than seven days after the test. Since 1 July 2026 it goes through the eCert portal, which no longer takes paper or PDF forms.
The portal emails you a copy when your electrician adds your email address. Keep it with your papers for the flat.
Waverley Council lists a Bondi Beach Conservation Area among its 17. It says development in one should respect the area’s significance and dominant built character. Council’s page lists them, so check it for your street.
Electrician Bondi: flats, rentals and the street network
Bondi is in the Waverley Council area, says the council’s website. If you’re not sure who supplies your street, Ausgrid’s website has a network postcode checker.
Bondi homes in the 2021 Census
Source: ABS Census QuickStats. The ABS makes small random changes to figures for privacy.
The Census also counted 2,547 rented homes. In a rental, NSW says the landlord must keep every smoke alarm working. The landlord replaces each alarm within 10 years of its manufacture. A licensed electrician repairs or replaces a hard-wired one.
NSW also lists a dangerous electrical fault, or a failure of the electricity supply, as an urgent repair in a rental. A tenant who can’t reach the landlord or agent can arrange the repair and claim the cost back.
In a strata building, the same landlord rules apply unless all four requirements are met. One is that the landlord has advised the tenant in writing that the owners corporation is responsible for the alarms. We also supply smoke alarm installation.
