A licensed electrician for Crows Nest flats and homes

A switchboard that trips whenever the oven and the air conditioner run together needs a licensed electrician in Crows Nest. Our electrician Crows Nest team takes calls at any hour.

We price every job before work starts, and the figure is fixed once you approve it. Evening and weekend rates differ. We quote your visit before we begin.

Which electrical faults show up in Crows Nest homes?

Aussie Home Services electrician working on a switchboard

Crows Nest had 1,441 flats or apartments among its 2,364 occupied homes at the 2021 Census. A switchboard splits the power into circuits. It holds the breakers and safety switches that guard each one.

A safety switch is a device that cuts power in a split second when current leaks to earth. When one won’t stay on, tracing the faulty circuit is better than resetting it again and again. A board with ceramic fuses, or with no safety switch on the power and lighting circuits, is worth a closer look before new load goes on. Our switchboard upgrades are quoted as a fixed job.

Warning signs at the board

  • A safety switch that won’t stay on after a reset
  • Lights that dim when the kettle or a heater starts
  • A panel that feels hot or crackles
  • A burning smell near the board

Breakers trip to protect the wiring. One that trips again and again is telling you something. Stop using any power point that sparks or feels hot. Switch it off at the board and call us.

Electrician Crows Nest: lights, appliances and fans

Ceiling fan

Old halogen downlights draw more power than LEDs. Swapping them for LED lighting upgrades trims the load on the circuit. An LED also runs cooler than a halogen of similar brightness.

An induction cooktop draws a lot of power, so the board has to take the extra load first. We handle oven and cooktop wiring from the board to the appliance.

A ceiling fan hangs from a fixing that has to carry its weight while it spins, and its wiring has to suit the motor. A new ceiling fan gets both.

Anything outdoors needs a weatherproof fitting. It needs a safety switch on its circuit too.

Emergency electrician Crows Nest: any hour, day or night

No power, sparks or a board that won’t reset deserves a call on 1300 164 206. We answer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and agree the price with you before work starts.

If Ausgrid supplies your home, report electrical faults and emergencies to Ausgrid on 13 13 88 (24 hours). If someone’s life is in danger, call triple zero (000). Ausgrid says to stay at least 8 metres, or 2 car lengths, from fallen wires or powerlines.

If the power goes out

  • Check the street. Are the streetlights out, and do your neighbours have power?
  • If your neighbours have power and you don’t, the fault might be inside your home. Look at the board for a tripped safety switch.
  • Switch off and unplug sensitive equipment to protect it from surges.
  • Stay clear of fallen powerlines and trees across wires, and report them to Ausgrid on 13 13 88 if it supplies your home.

If Ausgrid supplies your home and your power is still off after the street comes back, report it to Ausgrid. Its emergency service officers do a free check of your meter and connection wire.

Ausgrid can’t legally repair customer equipment past the connection point. That includes service wires. A qualified electrician does that repair.

Ausgrid says Accredited Service Providers Level 2 are authorised to provide services involving contestable installation work, disconnection and reconnection of supply, and energising installations. We hold Level 2 accredited service provider number 5559.

Ausgrid’s network spans Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley. Its postcode checker shows which distribution network your address is in.

Do I get a compliance certificate for electrical work in Crows Nest?

Yes, for electrical wiring work. Whenever electrical work is done, NSW says the electrician must submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. The person who does the test submits it as soon as practical, no later than seven days after the test. The certificate shows the work was tested and complies with the regulation and the relevant Australian Standards.

From 1 July 2026 it has to go through the Building Commission NSW eCert portal, and handwritten and PDF forms are no longer accepted. The customer gets a copy by email if the electrician adds their address in the portal. Keep it with your home records.

Electrician Crows Nest: flats, rentals and who looks after what

The NSW State Heritage Register lists the Crows Nest substation at 23 Albany Street.

Crows Nest homes in the 2021 Census

1,441
flats or apartments, 61.0% of 2,364 occupied homes
1,281
homes rented (54.2%)
574
homes owned with a mortgage (24.3%)
476
homes owned outright (20.1%)

Source: ABS Census QuickStats. The ABS makes small random changes to figures for privacy.

Renters held 1,281 of those homes. NSW Fair Trading says landlords must make sure smoke alarms work and check them every year. A landlord must use a licensed electrician to repair or replace a hard-wired alarm.

Our smoke alarm replacements cover that work. In some strata schemes the owners corporation looks after alarm repairs. Tenancy agreements from 23 March 2020 must note if it is.

I had a great experience with Aussie Services, especially with Luke, who came out to fix a blocked drain at my property. Luke was extremely professional, friendly and approachable. He took the time to explain the cause of the blockage, clearly explained what needed to be done, and resolved the issue efficiently. I really appreciated his knowledge, honesty and willingness to help. It's refreshing to deal with someone who genuinely takes pride in their work and provides excellent customer service. Highly recommend Luke and Aussie Services. I'll definitely use their services again in the future!

Very happy with the plumbing work done by Luke and his team. It was a big job but it was carried out with minimal disruption to the household, and the yard. Luke was always good in explaining how the job was progressing, and importantly when we had windows of opportunity to use the sewerage system during the day. They finished the job in a timely manner, and cleaned up afterwards. Happy to recommend this company.

Called and booked for Monday, given between 8 and 12pm for a possible gas leak. Chris showed up 1 minute after he called as he was just around the corner. Chris was polite, informative and professional. Checked all my appliances, one by one and the main meter. Lucky there was no leak and it was a billing issue. Better to be safe than sorry. Also as a first time customer received a discount which was nice as I saw on line if you mention it they knock it off the total price. Zero call out fee and all work quoted up front fixed price. Would highly recommend Aussie Home Services. Its hard yo find great trades these days and Chris fits the bill! Thank you.
